The Department of Library and Information Science is pleased to announce that Nicholas Brown and Emily Wagner are named Students of the Year for the 2016-2017 Graduation Class. The LIS Department emphasizes the values of collaboration, community, innovation, and excellence, and both students exemplify those values. In addition to their excellent academic performance, both students demonstrate outstanding service leadership. As the president of AGLISS, Emily Wagner worked with fellow AGLISS officers to give LIS students a sense of community by organizing networking and educational events and publishing newsletters. As a Music Specialist/Concert producer at the Library of Congress, Nicholas Brown utilizes his training to promote the Library of Congress’ mission and collections by bringing new users into the institution and reaching a wider, more diverse international audience through digital platforms. Congratulations, Nick and Emily! We wish you success in your professional careers.

Quotes from Nick and Emily

Nicholas Brown

Nick:

“One of the aspects I appreciate most about my CUA experience is the opportunity to connect my studies with my professional work in real time. I've been able to implement new skill sets gained in the MSLIS program already, in support of the Library of Congress' mission, including developing a large digitization project and applying my independent study on music library programming to the Bibliodiscotheque series that I co-produced.”

Emily:

"CUA’s library department faculty are some of the most welcoming, service-oriented people I have ever had the privilege to work with and learn from. They come from impressive backgrounds, encourage "thinking big" about the future of the field, and are remarkably interested in getting to know students and to foster our growth. I feel lucky and grateful to have found a community with so many willing mentors who encouraged me to study and practice simultaneously and to forge strong connections with the professional field.”
