Project Overview

The Catholic University of America (CUA) and Special Olympics International (SOI) are very pleased to announce a co-sponsored project to build a historical archiving and preservation program for Special Olympics. The project aims to preserve and provide access to Special Olympics' half a century's history documented in physical, digital and multi media. The two-year project is scheduled to start in June 2017 and complete in May 2019.


Work Overview

Supervised by CUA Library and Information Science faculty and SOI Officer, the two research assistants work part time (19 hours per week) for two years and participate in inventorying and processing multi-media collections generated by the Special Olympics Washington DC headquarters, creating and supporting online exhibits to highlight the life changing story of Special Olympics in celebration of its 50th anniversary, and building a usable and sustainable archives for Special Olympics. 


Stipends and Tuition Waivers

Each research assistant works 19 hours per week at monthly salary of $1,500 and is entitled to tuition waivers for two courses for the fall and spring semesters (up to a maximum of 12 credits per year).


Application Information

Candidates should meet the CUA MSLIS admissions requirements and be accepted into the CUA MSLIS program starting in summer or fall 2017, have professional interest in working with cultural heritage and archival collections, and be able to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve project goals in a non-profit organization setting.
